On 20th March 2025, The Belgian House of Representatives passed a resolution rejecting the People’s Republic of China (PRC)’s distortion of UN Resolution 2758, marking another milestone in the growing global legislative push under Initiative 2758.

The motion was spearheaded by IPAC Belgian Co-Chair Representative Els Van Hoof and passed overwhelmingly, with 126 votes in favour, none against, and 13 abstentions. The resolution not only rebukes the PRC’s false claims that Resolution 2758 establishes sovereignty over Taiwan, but also condemns Beijing’s recent military provocations near Taiwan, including large-scale live-fire exercises and incursions across the median line of the Taiwan Strait.

Representative Els Van Hoof emphasised the importance of resisting historical revisionism and standing up for the rights of democratic partners like Taiwan. The resolution calls on the Belgian Government to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organisations and to coordinate closely with like-minded democracies in response to rising cross-strait tensions.

IPAC welcomes this strong signal from Belgium’s legislature and encourages further parliamentary action.
