Statement on the People's Liberation Army Military Exercises around Taiwan codenamed 'Justice Mission 2025'

We, The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), condemn the People’s Liberation Army’s latest military exercises around Taiwan. These drills, conducted across multiple axes around the island and involving joint naval, air, missile, and ground forces, simulate encirclement, precision strikes, and blockade operations. They represent a deliberate escalation of coercive pressure against Taiwan and a dangerous step away from restraint.
Such actions are not routine. They signal a trajectory by the Chinese Communist Party that increasingly points toward the normalization of military intimidation and the preparation for conflict. This pattern heightens the risk of miscalculation, undermines cross-Strait stability, and threatens the wider Indo-Pacific, not to mention global prosperity.
IPAC calls on our governments to respond with urgency and unity. Democratic nations must move beyond statements of opposition to unilateral change in the status quo, and agree a common deterrence plan that raises the costs of aggression, strengthens collective preparedness, and makes clear that any further escalation will meet a coordinated and resolute response.
